This year, 7 staff members were selected to give
professional presentations at the annual Pennsylvania
Chapter of the American Planning Association
Conference held in Allentown.
Four MCPC staff members received pins for their
dedicated service to Montgomery County. Drew Shaw,
Section Chief of Environmental Planning, earned a pin
for 30 years of service. Donna Caramenico, Recycling
Associate, received a 25-year pin. Elizabeth Emlen, who
recently retired from MCPC, received a pin for 20 years
of service, and Kevin Chavous, Planner, received a
15-year pin.
While on vacation in Austria, Matt Schelly presented the
Upper Salford Township Greenway Guidebook at the
Permanent European Conference for the Study of the
Rural Landscape in September.
Interns
In 2016 our staff was aided by the hard
work and dedication of 5 excellent
interns who are interested in a planning
career. By volunteering their time and
knowledge while gaining practical
planning experience, these young
professionals were able to make valuable
contributions on a variety of projects.
The interns included Lucinda Bartley, a
resident of Jenkintown who is seeking a
master’s of landscape architecture from
Temple University; Christine Hassinger
of Collegeville, who is pursuing a BA
degree in architectural studies from
Boston University; Steve Zbyszinski from
Norristown, who completed a degree in
geography and planning at Bloomsburg
University; Rachael Strayer, a student
at Souderton High School who was
undertaking a mentorship program; and
Matt Baumgardner, a student at
Stockton University.
