Focusing on the Future
Montco 2040
Earlier in 2016, we completed our comprehensive plan outreach
meetings to all Montgomery County municipalities. The meetings
offered an opportunity to present
and discuss important local planning issues. To ensure Montco 2040
remains relevant, we prepare an annual plan implementation update
covering projects undertaken by the county that fulfill recommendations
in the plan.
WasteManagement Plan Revision
The
, prepared
over the past few years, was approved by the
Commonwealth of Pennsylvania, fulfilling one
of the county’s obligations under Act 101, the
Municipal Waste Planning, Recycling and Waste
Reduction Act of 1988. The plan, which updates
the 2006 plan, focuses particularly on waste
management system opportunities in the eastern
portion of the county that have arisen following
the conclusion of current contracts with the
operators of the waste-to-energy plant located
in Plymouth Township. The expansion of recycling
and special waste management is an important
recommendation in the plan.
Bike Montco
, which will enhance
the county’s efforts to improve bicycle
mobility, was initiated in 2016. MCPC
obtained a $30,000 TCDI grant
from the Delaware Valley Regional
Planning Commission (DVRPC) to fund
the project. The plan, which will be
completed in 2017, is being guided
by an advisory committee with over
40 representatives. It will incorporate
new information including analysis of
bicycle route stress being undertaken
by the DVRPC. A consultant has
been hired to assist in developing
concept designs for four different types
of bicycle mobility environments:
bicycling to transit, bicycling in
urbanized settings, bicycling to
parks and trails, and bicycling to
major institutions such as colleges.
